COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Western Reserve Masonic Community, 10 local women meet each Tuesday to knit and crochet items for Warm Up Medina County—so far they have made 37 afghans and 21 scarves for donation. The group will open to the public at 10 a.m. on Aug. 6 to help produce more goods and will sell items at a Maker’s Market on Oct. 11 to raise funds for yarn supplies.  Cleveland.com
  • Yesterday at the Medina County Fair, visitors like Brittany and Pamela Buescher enjoyed the fun rides, tasty food, and lively sights and sounds—fair director Lori Berger said the cool weather drew bigger crowds and new attractions like the Sea Lion Show and exotic petting zoo. The fair board will meet next week to review numbers and plans for next year.  Cleveland.com

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Monday evening storms caused lightning to strike a truck carrying Sarah Henry and her daughter near a gas station in Jackson Township & the vehicle sustained metal damage while both remained unharmed.  FOX 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Medina Library hosts an art show titled Celebrating the Differences at the B Smith Gallery where five local artists display paintings and photographs depicting the Medina gazebo—each work reflects a unique style and personal vision. The exhibition runs until Aug. 23 and invites local visitors to explore diverse artistic approaches.  Cleveland.com
  • St. Emilian Byzantine Catholic Church celebrated its 50th anniversary this year after starting in January 1975 when families first gathered at Huntington Bank and later purchased a ten-acre site at 1231 Substation Road – now the church plans several events including a picnic on Aug. 10, a golf outing on Aug. 16, and a 50th dedication celebration on Oct. 5. Fr. Peter Boksay, the only Hungarian Byzantine Catholic priest in the U.S., leads the 80-family congregation with a focus on preserving its long-standing traditions.  Cleveland.com
  • A cast of 37 youths from Medina County Showbiz performed High School Musical at the Haddad Theater last month and later told council how the free program gives young actors a safe, supportive space. Program officials said this 45-year tradition benefits from community support—helping fund needed theater improvements.  Cleveland.com
