EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Medina High School Speech and Debate Team was honored as a Leading Chapter by the National Speech and Debate Association after posting strong results at the Ohio State Tournament at a March 17 board meeting — the team now prepares for the upcoming National Qualifier.  Cleveland.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A meteor lit up Northeast Ohio Tuesday morning and broke apart over Valley City, making a loud boom that rattled homes in Medina County. Experts say the rare event may have scattered fragments in the county (only 14 meteorites have been confirmed in Ohio) as searches continue.  WKYC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Avery’s Law is now in effect, raising penalties for dangerous dog attacks and increasing accountability for pet owners in Ohio. The measure went into force today to improve public safety and deter risky behavior.  WKYC
  • County commissioners on Tuesday assured Medina County Showbiz it will have a formal role in a study of the 57,500 sqft county administration building with its Haddad Theater, which may see remodeling or a separate entrance to ease access for theatergoers during evening and weekend events.  Cleveland.com
