COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Medina County Dog Shelter staff and volunteers will attend a two-day training on Oct. 18 and 19 to learn how to safely manage dog playgroups and improve adoption outcomes through the Dogs Playing for Life program—local donors are invited to drop off or ship supplies like leashes, collars, spray bottles, and water jugs.  Cleveland.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four candidates—Jeanne Pritchard, Victoria Druley, Aidan Haggard, and Aaron Hair—are vying for three open seats on the Medina Board of Education. Each candidate emphasizes plans to support quality education and control expenses to benefit local students.  Cleveland.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Brunswick Hills Township voiced concerns about heavy truck traffic on Sleepy Hollow, Foskett and Substation roads during a Sept. 23 meeting—requesting weight-limit signs and more police patrols for safety. Attendees also questioned chicken ownership in subdivisions as officials noted state law bans raising poultry on properties smaller than 1 acre and scheduled a zoning commission hearing at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 to address the issue.  Cleveland.com
  • Medina council hopefuls are preparing for the Nov. 4 election with candidates campaigning on issues like safer roads and deer control. Ed Isabella and Skip Sipos vie for an at-large seat while incumbent Regi Haire and challenger Adam Friedrick run for Ward 3 and Chet Simmons runs unopposed for Ward 1 — each planning to tackle local challenges directly.  Cleveland.com
  • Council President John Coyne (since 1998) and Councilor Jim Shields (since 2001) have filed to run for mayor after Mayor Dennis Hanwell announced he will retire at year's end.
