EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Medina Board of Education approved naming the main stage at Medina Performing Arts Center the Gary Cuilla Main Stage to honor the late marching band director who retired in 2015 — a public naming ceremony will be scheduled to celebrate his legacy in music education.  Cleveland.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Medina voters will see a levy proposal on the November ballot that renews the current 1-mill levy and adds a .25-mill increase to fund the County Park District through 2036—finance committee members support the measure as a key city partnership.  Cleveland.com
  • Medina's finance committee approved a bid on Blake Avenue reconstruction as City Engineer Patrick Patton said the project will widen the narrow lanes and add sidewalks, curbs and storm sewers—partly funded by a $485,000 grant along with shared city and county costs. The work will also create space for public parking and avoid more costly full-road expansion.  Cleveland.com
  • Medina officials increased the estimate for the U.S. 42 resurfacing project through town after no bids came in, raising the total by about $278,000 to $2,143,600 as work will run from Lafayette Road north on Court Street through the square to Homestead Street and include bump-outs for pedestrian safety. City Engineer Patrick Patton said the community will join on October 4 at 11:30 a.m.—the America 250-Medina Heritage Tree dedication will hold a program in the gazebo before planting in Uptown Park.  Cleveland.com
  • Ohio launched a $10 million Child Care Cred Program to help working families get affordable childcare if they live in Ohio and work with local employers by applying through the Department of Children and Youth — applications are due by May 1 and funding will be available until June 30.  WKYC
