CULTURE NEWS

  • Local historians and volunteers published a book about 45 Revolutionary War veterans — whose graves are in 23 county cemeteries — after receiving a $4,000 grant from America 250, and the work features stories and photos that will be shared with elementary schools at the start of the school year.  Cleveland.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Medina Police Department was accepted into the Ohio Collaborative Law Enforcement Accreditation Program—one of 20 agencies statewide meeting benchmarks for bias-free practices, community engagement and officer accountability. This milestone shows the department’s commitment to ethical and effective policing.  Cleveland.com
  • During a council meeting on May 12, Medina Mayor Dennis Hanwell said protests on the square are a constitutional right—he explained that public spaces allow free assembly without a permit and that government actions cannot limit these rights.  Cleveland.com
  • Medina's building official Dan Gladish reminded property owners that grass and weeds must stay below six inches, and he said the department will first notify non-compliant owners (with a written notice) before hiring a contractor if needed. Parks and Recreation Director Jansen Wehlrey also announced that the Memorial Park pool and the splash pads at Ray Mellert and Fred Greenwood parks will open May 24 at their set hours.  Cleveland.com
