  • On April 12 the Medina County Historical Society held a members-only tour at Medina Municipal Airport (four miles east of the business district) where guide Joe Sopko explained the site’s ties to World War II and a past connection with President Lyndon B. Johnson through local pilot Bruce Hallock. The group viewed photos of local pilots and historic aircraft and learned that even professional golfer Arnold Palmer has flown into the airport.  Cleveland.com
  • 100+ Women Who Care selected Next Step Up to receive donated funds this quarter for Medina’s first emergency housing shelter—opened mid-March—to use for essential supplies—hygiene products and laundry soap—for its homeless residents.  Cleveland.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Burton man Velasquez (accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend) appeared for a video arraignment on April 7th at Brunswick Dollar General and had his bond set at $5 million.  WKYC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Medina High School will hold its 150th commencement on Saturday May 24 at 11 a.m. at Ken Dukes Stadium, where a special logo, commemorative ticket, and ribbon will be featured — all designed to mark this milestone day for graduates and their families.  Cleveland.com
  • Medina City Schools received community support for the MHS girls lacrosse team after their bus caught fire during spring break when the engine ignited on March 27 along Interstate 77—no one was injured. The board of education accepted donations on April 15 and the district provided mental health services and assistance for lost equipment.  Cleveland.com
