One year ago, a total solar eclipse crossed northeast Ohio and residents and visitors experienced a once in a lifetime event as cloudy weather led to fewer crowds and cancelled hotel reservations.

Planners began meeting in spring 2021, deployed drones to monitor traffic, and staged emergency services so that the event stayed safe—showing the value of careful preparation.

Ohio agriculture experts urge residents to look for and destroy spotted lanternfly egg masses before they hatch — scraping them off trees and placing them in soapy water or rubbing alcohol will help stop the pest from damaging grapevines and other crops.

Early voting for the May 6 primary began on April 8 and will run through May 4—voters in Medina can cast ballots at local polling places.
