About this event
Instructors: Shaun C. | For ages 6+
Join us during The Common Ground's Small Business Market to make custom ornaments for your Christmas tree. You'll be guided through all of the steps needed to turn a slab of clay into a beautiful ornament. You'll be able to choose from a variety of ornament shapes, cut out your ornament, carve any design you might like, and then glaze to your heart's content.
This drop-in is available for purchase by the number of ornaments: $8 for one and $20 for three. Pre-registration is not required but is strongly encouraged in order to jump the line when arriving during the market on Saturday. This drop-in is designed for starter hand builders and is perfect for parents with their younger children!
This is a Project-based Drop-In . This drop-in will cover the techniques required for makers to build a specific project. Due to the nature of this drop-in, we may not cover every skill required to handbuild your own projects in the future. Interested in learning more pottery skills? We recommend taking one of our skill-based workshops or courses. Note: This workshop does include time to individualize your piece with Stroke & Coat glazes.
Starter makers are just beginning their journey. Whether wheel throwing or handbuilding—they’re just trying it out for the first time and just introducing ceramics into their wheelhouse. Learn more about the Maker's Journey here .
No partial refunds or make-up instruction will be provided if drop-in time is missed. Please make sure you are available before registering. Please wear clothes you’re okay with getting messy and plan to remove all jewelry. Long hair will need to be pulled back and short nails are recommended.
Ceramics can be an unpredictable art. As the saying goes, "You can't love a piece until it comes out of the final firing". We put love and care into every piece that is made in our studio, but some things we can't control. We hope that you enjoy the experience of learning to create pottery and kiln gods willing, fall in love with your finished piece, but we cannot guarantee the functionality or final outcome of your piece. Promotional photos use pieces that have been created by professional potters—class results may vary based on skill level.
